"At Five in the Afternoon," 1948–49, Casein and graphite on paperboard, 15 x 20 in. (38.1 x 50.8 cm)
December 19-21, 1948

During a blizzard, Motherwell paints Granada (P86) and The Voyage (P87) on a large roll of paper tacked to the wall. Still emotionally fragile after recent events, Motherwell considers destroying the new paintings but Bradley Walker Tomlin talks him out of it.
