Summer 1965

Motherwell, Frankenthaler, and his daughters spend a month traveling in Europe. They visit Paris, Venice, Athens, the Greek Islands, and London. In late August, Motherwell writes an eighteen-page letter to Frank O'Hara full of aphorisms and random thoughts about art. An edited version of the letter will be included in the exhibition catalogue for his retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art.
