Spring 1973
Motherwell spends the month of March working with Kenneth Tyler at Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles, to create twenty-two lithographic editions, including the Summer Light series and the Soot Black Stone series. For the first time, Motherwell incorporates lithographic reproductions of labels and cigarette packages in his collage prints.
In Greenwich he begins Elegy to the Spanish Republic No. 126, the mural commissioned for the University of Iowa Museum of Art.
